Payyans (2011)
"Payyans" is a youth-family oriented film written and directed by Leo Thaddeus. It stars Jayasurya, Rohini, Anjali, Lalu Alex and Lal in pivotal roles. The film's score and soundtrack has been composed by Alphons Joseph. The film is produced by Noushad Kammu Vadakkan and distributed by Cinema Paradiso Release. It narrates the story of a reckless youth who is forced to act his age and take responsibility for his actions.
The film first half explores the relationship between a mother and a child. The central character Josy (Jayasurya) is brought up all by his mother (Rohini) after his father's (Lal) "disappearance". Apparently, Josy's problems start with the disappearance of his father. He drops out from the college to start his own business. But he does not succeed in his venture because of the lifestyle he leads. The second-half of film takes

Leo Thaddeus,is back after the nightmarish 'Pachamarathananil', with the naughty-nutty antics of a son and a strict-disciplinary father and lovable mother with his new film "Payyans". As a director, Leo donne an excellent work through his second film. He craft a simple thread story to a good entertainment flick.The screenplay is minty cool and unlike other family -youth films "Payyans" is sharp, hip, mod, trendy and funny.
Of the cast Jayasurya is amazingly candid and can be crowned the as a Youth star. His dialogue presentation and comedies, clicks and stay as highlight for the film.
Lal and Rohini,who eventually come out with the impressive performances in the film. Suraj Venjaramoodu, whose comic capers had started turning stale, elicits quite a few laughs in the film,even his sentiment dialogues get clicked. Anjali,angaaditheru fame makes her debut in Mollywood through Payyans. She had a less space role in "Payyans",and done it well. Lalu Alex, Janardhanan, UndaPakru and others in the cast are also good.
Songs by Kaithapram-Anil Panachooran-Alphonse team is just average.
The team has opted to go for a conventional way of filmmaking. No big fights, no stylish shots, no excessive melodrama and thrills here. "Payyans" should also impose a good lesson for youth. As a conclude we can say,"PAYYANS" is a simple film, which can be enjoyed for both family and youth.
